Tips for Self Storage:
- Use furniture drawers for delicate items and specially wrap and label them as "FRAGILE". Bubble wrap and packaging paper are available at the self storage Aberdeen facility.
- When packing toys or smaller objects, remember to fill boxes completely, not leaving any empty spaces to prevent the boxes from collapsing when they are stacked.
- Be careful not to store anything combustible such as paint and chemicals, or perishable items like food.
- When storing lawn and garden equipment, drain any fluids prior to storage to avoid corrosive damage.
- Use trash cans to store shovels, hoes and rakes.

- When storing delicate heirlooms, use specially constructed boxes, such as wardrobe boxes. Remember to label these boxes "FRAGILE".
- Store furniture carefully on boards or pallets and cover them to prevent any damage.
- Mattresses should be covered and stored flat on level surfaces (mattress covers are highly recommended).
- Break down items such as table legs
- Treat wood surfaces before storing.
- When storing business files and inventory, label all of the boxes and construct aisles so files are easily seen and accessible.
- As a general rule, place large heavy and valuable items that you can stack upon, at the rear of the unit. Then work forwards and upwards with lighter fragile items.
- Keep refrigerator and freezer doors slightly open and clean them before storing (make sure it is dry to prevent any mildew).
- The space inside wardrobes, cupboards, desks, fridges can be used for extra space
- Do not place more weight in a box than it is designed to hold.
- Box everything that you can to prevent the items from getting dusty.
- Electrical equipment such as TVs, stereos and computers should be packed in their original boxes whenever possible. If this isn't possible, pack them into boxes that are about the right size
- Making sure that you fill any gaps with padding.
- Remove batteries from any battery operated appliances and toys.
- Inspect your storage unit and make a list of the packing accessories which you will need. Commonly used packaging supplies include bubble pack, rope, tape, drop cloths, polyurethane sheeting, furniture and mattress covers, pallets, skids, locks, and boxes, most of which are available for purchase at the on-site store.
